Tunisia as a gambling resort for tourists

Tunisia is a country located in North Africa, on the Mediterranean coast. This beautiful country has a very rich historical and architectural heritage of many centuries, and it attracts a lot of tourists from all around the world.

Legal landscape

Tunisia is a country in North Africa where land-based casino gambling is permitted only for tourists. It is a Muslim country, and gambling is forbidden in Islam. Muslims, which make up 98% of Tunisian local population, cannot enter casinos.  A player entering a casino must show a passport as proof of where he is from, and payment is accepted only in dollars or euros. Other types of gambling, such as sports betting and online gambling are illegal in Tunisia, although many foreign online-casino sites are not blocked and players can easily find access to them.

Tunisian government is responsible for gambling regulation in Tunisia. The government policy is based on the concept that land-based casinos are approved for serving gambling tourists as they generate revenue that benefits the country economy. Land-based gambling operations generating profit under TND 50,000($16,769.00) require permission from the interior minister. Anything over this amount requires signed approval from the Prime Minister.

Luring gambling tourists in

Albeit the fact that Tunisia is a Muslim country, it has become a quite popular holiday resort for gambling tourists along with its sandy beaches and nice climate. Currently, there are four casinos scattered across popular tourist Tunisian cities:  Grand Casino in Djerba, the Grand Casino Yasmine in Hammamet,  Casino La Medina in Hammamet, and Grand Casino Kantaoui, Sousse.

The largest one is the Grand Casino in Djerba. It is open twenty-four hours a day, offering its guests hundred and fifty-nine slot machines, video poker terminals and eighteen gaming tables that include poker, blackjack, roulette, and stud poker.

Grand Casino Yasmine boasts  110 slot machines and 10 casino table games, including Blackjack, Roulette, Texas Holdem, and Stud Poker. The casino also hosts a bar on its premises.

Casino La Medina is a very unique and a rare daytime casino, which is open only from 8 am until 4 pm. The casino houses 100 slot machines and video poker machines, as well as 13 gaming tables. These tables offer Blackjack, American Roulette, Punto Banco and Stud Poker games.

Grand Casino Kantaoui (Sousse) operates 11 hours a day.  The casino floor holds 50 slot machines and 10 gaming tables, including Blackjack, Roulette, Stud Poker and Punto Banco.

Although gambling is forbidden for Tunisian players, some facts show that it still does not prevent Tunisians from playing and even succeeding at it. The living proof is the winner of World Series of Poker 2012, who was a Poker player from Tunisia. A Tunisian citizen, Imed Ben Mahmoud defeated players from France and UK and won a prize of $190, 216.00.

For poker players and table games lovers, Inbet Games offers a fantastic array of games such as Poker Hold’em, Poker Omaha, Live Roulette, Wheel of Fortune and  BlackJack, Sicbo and Sicbo Australia and more options to engage casino customers and provide casinos with efficient means to boost their revenues.
